Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses are in most cases, Dr. Hicks’ preferred modality of disposable contacts. Replacing the contact every day with a brand new lens decreases the chances of infections or contact lens complications. Daily lenses should be thrown away every single day. The material that is used for the lenses is designed to keep the safety and integrity of the lens for 1 day and no longer. Daily Disposable lenses are available in:

  • Distance Vision Only – Spherical

  • Toric Lenses – For those with astigmatism correction needed

  • Multi-Focal Lenses – Focal distances optimized for both distance and near activities.

Bi-Focal Contact Lenses - Distance and Near Vision All in One Lens

Multi-Focal or Bi-focal Contact Lenses can be a life changing product for some patients. Patients are fit with lenses specially designed with focal areas designated with optimal distance and near vision within their contact lenses. Most patients no longer have to use reading glasses over their contact lenses when their day requires them to look at something up close (like reading or working). Dr. Hicks is proficient at fitting this type of lens. Many of his patients have left their appointments with clear vision, and ready to work, play and live with just one set of contact lenses. Multi Focal Contact Lenses are available in both monthly and daily disposable modalities.

Scleral Lenses - Correcting Irregular Corneas and Keratoconus

If you have been told in the past that you are not a good candidate for contact lens correction, it is possible that you have a condition called keratakonous or irregular corneas. Dr. Hicks has fit many patients over the years that have been told contact lenses are not an option for them by exploring specialty contact lenses and/or treatments.

Scleral contacts are large-diameter gas permeable contact lenses specially designed to use natural tears as a bridge for the lens to rest on the white part (scalera) of your eye. In doing so, scleral lenses functionally replace the irregular cornea with a perfectly smooth optical surface to correct vision problems caused by keratoconus and other corneal irregularities. These contact lenses are comfortable when inserted and designed for extended use when care for and disinfected properly. Team SeePort Optometry routinely measures the surface of the cornea during the pre testing process, which will identify abnormalities in the cornea before Dr. Hicks even begins the exam. This information and measurements assist greatly in the assessment of vision deficiencies our patients are experiencing.

Contact Lens considerations:

  • Dry Eyes frequently reduce vision, comfort, and therefore satisfaction of contact lens use. Dry Eye can be treated and usually controlled in order to allow comfortable contact lens use. From simply using tear drops over contacts to using the latest technology, there are many ways to overcome these issues.

  • Allergies are another potential source of vision and comfort complication when it comes to contact lens use. Again, usually allergy symptoms can be controlled or minimized in order to allow happy contact lens use. Ask us how to overcome your concerns before you become dissatisfied with contacts, or if you have discontinued using your contacts for similar reasons then consult with us on how you can overcome them

*** Contact lenses, now more than ever, should be thrown away on required schedule, not slept in, and cleaned daily. We strongly recommend that you have backup eyewear in addition to your contacts. Glasses will actually give your eyes protection from COVID-19. WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE REMOVING OR INSERTING CONTACTS ***
