Mission Statement and Community Involvement

Our Mission is to strengthen our community by enhancing our citizen’s sight and improving their total health by delivering personal care.

In order to make healthcare accessible to our community, Dr. Hicks and Annie designed the SeePort Solutions Program, an annual payment option that spreads out the cost of quality eyewear and eye care over 12 months.   We designed each price point to include designer frames and digital lenses and/or all contact lens designs.  Patients in the Solution only pay for what they choose, not what an insurance company chooses for them.  When compared with leading vision plans, SeePort Solutions patients spend the same or less than co-pays and premiums require.  Visit our SeePort Solutions Page to read more and decide if our Solutions are a good solution for you and your family.

In 20/20, we decided to take back our favorite number by giving it away.  The North Port Community has nominated neighbors, friends, students, and co-workers who need vision care but do not have the means to get an eye exam or glasses.  Our goal is to assist every person nominated by the end of November 20/20.  Visit the webpage set up for the event to nominate someone and read the full details.  Thank you for helping us restore clarity to 2020!

SeePort Optometry has been a member of the North Port Chamber of Commerce since opening in 2009.  Between 2013-2015, Annie Hicks served on the board of directors, helping guide and support members of the chamber and the community.  Over the years we have sponsored numerous events with the chamber, helping them provide resources and services North Port and surrounding communities.  Every November, SeePort hosts the Business After Hours event, one of the best attended events of the year by members.  In past years, Annie has cooked ALL the food for the event, feeding anywhere between 75 and 125 people!  In 2020, we are taking a different approach by supporting our neighbors, Linkster’s Bar and Dubz BBQ by having them provide the food and drinks.  We are asking chamber members to help us support these businesses that were hit hard by COVID shut downs by tipping the bartenders and servers at both establishments.

In the early 2010’s, SeePort hosted an annual clothing exchange to benefit the North Port back to School Fair.  Clothing Donations were collected and the donators were assigned tickets to “spend” based on their donations.  Women were able to refresh their wardrobes while cleaning out their closets at the same time.  The incredibly popular and successful event helped the North Port Social Services Department pay for and provide backpacks and school supplies to children in need.

Dr. Hicks and Annie are both members of the North Port Lion’s Club, an organization dedicated to providing eye care and eyewear to community members at no cost to them.  SeePort Optometry is also the referral source for the local chapter, where we provide exams, frames and lenses at a low cost to the club.  SeePort was the recipient of the Helen Keller Award in 2011-2012, a prestigious honor bestowed upon the most dedicated Lion’s.  In 2019, our optical specialist, Tariq, coordinated a large donation of frames and lenses to the Ecuador Lion’s Club, where one of our previous opticians served.  The donations he gathered assisted over 100 patients in Ecuador the chance to see their world clearly for the first time!

In 2012 and 2013, SeePort Optometry participated in the Big Brothers and Big Sister’s of the Suncoast’s Cooking for Kids Event.  Annie and Dr. Hicks prepared the now famous “Piggy in Paradise” recipe and WON THE EVENT!  SeePort’s culinary creations took home the trophies for Best Overall Dish and Judge’s Favorite!  They were up against some tough competition including Heron Creek Country Club, Olde Wold Restaurant, Publix, Beef O Brady’s and other professional and local chefs.

To celebrate the Atlanta Braves arriving in North Port for spring training, community members were invited to volunteer at Cool Today Park in exchange for donations to a charity of choice.  Annie has been a Braves fan since she lived in Atlanta and LOVES the Southeastern Guide Dogs, so joining Mrs. Jacqueline Moore’s Kindness Community as a volunteer was an easy and fun decision.  The Kindness Community Team raised over $1300 for the SE Guide Dogs that day which provided training, housing and medical care to the guide doggies.

Several years have brought SeePort Optometry The Best Optical and/or Optometrist in North Port Title.  The North Port Sun asks readers to submit ballots annually indicating their  favorite establishments, services and professionals in the area.  SeePort has earned the title more years than we have not since 2009 when we opened.  We are proud and honored to be named the best of the city!
